About EARTHizens
Who We Are
We are a social enterprise dedicated to promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability through education and community engagement. Our core values reflect our passion and commitment to encouraging the world to rethink, review, and reflect on our past habits. We believe it is time for us, as ordinary citizens of the planet, to step up and become "EARTHizens" for the new world we aim to create collectively.
By taking recyclable "trash," we transform it into innovative, creative treasures. Our vision is to restore environmental consciousness through the art of recyclable storytelling. Through this, we aim to spread awareness about responsible business practices and inspire mindful behavioral changes in our daily living patterns.
The EARTHizens movement is the first of its kind on the continent. Under the AfriCAN EARTHizens brand, grassroots recyclers are empowered to create and contribute collectively to the Green Economy.
Our founder, Anthea Thyssen-Ambursley, began her journey as a recycling entrepreneur specializing in glass and paper in 2010. Having experienced firsthand the reluctance of blue-chip companies to contribute responsibly to the environment, she set out to help grassroots recyclers make a sustainable living while protecting our planet.
We invite partnerships with businesses and individuals who are doing their part to leave a thriving planet for the next generation through conscious living. We choose impact over profit. Our greatest goal is sustainable change—spreading collective awareness through actionable steps to tackle littering and waste head-on.
We believe that "the state of the litter in a country reflects the state of the minds of South African citizens". Together, we proudly promote:
#StopUsingPlastic #ConsciousConsumerism #SupportLocalBusinesses #PurposefulPurchasesÂ
